Missouri speaker of the house filing for divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Even the most successful of individuals can be confronted with a family breakup. And this can include couples in a longstanding happily married relationship. It was just recently announced that the Missouri Speaker of the House, Steve Tilley, will be divorcing his wife. The two were married for 18 years and have raised two daughters. The stress of their demanding schedules was one reason given for why they are seeking a divorce. Another reason given was that the two were emotionally growing apart. Since more and more couples are

Battle over pet custody stems from divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Friday, October 7, 2011. With divorce there is always the possibility of a bitter battle over property division and who owns what. However, in a recent rather bizarre divorce turned family law story, it turns out that an ex-wife and her former sister-in-law are going to court over who the rightful owner of a 3-year-old dog named Lucy is. The case actually stems back to two years ago, when a husband and wife divorced. After the separation, the wife and the couple’s daughter moved out of the family home, and left the ex-husband with two

Mother loses custody after 2-year-old wanders away from home

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Due to a mother’s alleged neglect, a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old are now staying with their father. And, aside from losing custody of the children to their father, it also seems that the mother will end up being charged with child abuse. The incident happened on Monday when a passerby noticed a toddler boy wandering near a state road. The 2-year-old was barefoot, in pajamas, hugging a blanket and crying. When deputies brought the boy back to his mother — who was at her mother’s house — she reportedly admitted

Collaborative divorce can be less stressful

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, September 29, 2011. When many people get married they don’t think that divorce may also come later on down the road. But with the U.S. Census reporting that in 2009 there were 9.7 divorces for every 1,000 women and 9.2 divorces for every 1,000 men, the truth is that divorce is a process that ends up affecting many Missouri residents. And while the decision to divorce in many marriages is the right thing to do, it’s important to look into what legal options are available — especially for small business owners — to ensure

Child custody relocation requests rise with economic pressures

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. For some spouses divorce and child custody agreements can be hard to reach. However, with the current economic climate and more parents financially struggling, many are finding the situations to be even more trying as more are filing relocation requests. According to a survey of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, in the past three years 85 percent have seen complications arise in reaching a divorce settlement due to some kind of housing debt. Additionally 53 percent reported seeing an increase in the number of child custody cases that involve

Temporary alimony decided, but McCourt saga continues on

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, September 22, 2011. A temporary alimony agreement was recently reached between Frank McCourt and his ex-wife Jamie McCourt. However, the couple is still in a contentious battle over who has ownership of the Dodgers baseball team. As of now Frank McCourt will continue to pay his ex-wife $225,000 a month in spousal support, but he will no longer have to pay out-of-pocket an additional $412,159 a month that he was previously paying for six mortgages. Instead, the money for those mortgages will come out of a $1.1 million escrow account, which was created by the
