Missouri father denied custodial rights of biological daughter

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. A state’s Supreme Court recently ruled a Missouri father does not have any custody rights when it comes to his 10-year-old daughter. It was determined that he should not have child custody rights because he simply waited too long after taking a paternity test to try and get custody of her. This case goes back to the spring of 1999. At the time, the girl’s mother was romantically involved with two different men. According to the high court, the Missouri man heard from a co-worker that the woman might be

Alternative court for unmarried parents

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Paternity on Monday, May 28, 2012. When an unmarried new father is hailed into court, the rulings usually involve financial determinations, not the role he will play in the child’s life. One judge in Minnesota found that too often, even men who contributed financially faded from their children’s lives. The same judge found that additional efforts need to be made to ensure that unmarried fathers uphold parenting obligations. Working collaboratively with mothers and the courts, a new system is paving the way for family courts nationwide. The new arrangement could possibly serve as a model

Why is Facebook being seen in more divorce cases?

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, May 24, 2012. Recently the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, tied the knot and married his longtime girlfriend. However, while his status just changed to “married,” it turns out that many couples who later go on to change their status to “divorcde” or “single,” cite Facebook as playing a role in why their marriage did not go as planned. According to the American Academy of Matrimonial Attorneys, more than 80 percent of lawyers surveyed reported seeing an increase in social media being involved in a divorce. When looking at why Facebook and other

Financial tips pre-divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Friday, May 18, 2012. Sometimes when two people are married, they each do not realize all of the assets and liabilities that they carry separately and jointly. However, if you are thinking about asking your wife for a divorce, it becomes even more crucial to know where you both stand financially in order to know what a fair divorce settlement would even look like. This is why it’s advisable to start gathering documents and other information, even before actually asking for a divorce. The first thing to do is to get a sense of

More men receiving alimony, child support

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Many men going through a divorce may not realize it, but if they financially relied on their spouse, or if there were income disparities, they may be able to receive spousal support. Additionally, if there are children involved, there is no reason to assume that the mother will automatically receive custody and child support, as both of these can — and are — awarded to fathers in Missouri and throughout the country. Years ago the norm was for men to pay child support and alimony to their ex-wives. However, with women
