More grandparents in Missouri raising grandchildren

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Over the years, more and more grandparents — especially single grandfathers — have been raising their grandchildren. In turn this has meant a loving, caring and supportive home for many children, and has even kept grandfathers feeling younger as they buy things like iPods and plan birthday parties. However, it should be noted that these living situations are family law matters where legal issues can arise. According to U.S. Census figures, there are more than 5.8 million children under the age of 18 living in a household that is headed

A child thrives through constant contact with their father

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Friday, June 15, 2012. Many fathers are eager to step up to the plate when it comes to parenting. They are the dads who are there to watch the Little League game and the ones to take their daughter to the park. And while their parenting may be different than a mother’s, it is no less important when it comes to the healthy development of a child. In evaluating the May article, “Are Dads the New Moms?” that appeared in the Wall Street Journal, one woman, who actually tries to keep couples

Advice for Missouri parents with shared child custody

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Shared custody can be difficult for children if there is no consistency. This consistency includes house rules at mom’s house and dad’s house, as well as regular times they can count on visiting and talking with mom and dad. Of course, it’s understandable that there may be resentments between both parents after a divorce or break up. But that should not stop parents from working together to provide the best and most nurturing environment for their child to be raised in. In terms of consistency, one piece of advice is

Financial disagreements a common cause of divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Friday, June 8, 2012. Disagreements over money are one of the leading factors among couples who go on to get a divorce. This is why some financial experts recommend for couples to talk about finances — what they have, what they owe and what they would like to have in the future — before actually getting married. According to a 2009 study, those couples who argue or can’t agree on finances once a week, if not more, are 30 percent more likely to end up getting a divorce. Additionally, a recent survey conducted by

Missouri father denied custodial rights of biological daughter

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. A state’s Supreme Court recently ruled a Missouri father does not have any custody rights when it comes to his 10-year-old daughter. It was determined that he should not have child custody rights because he simply waited too long after taking a paternity test to try and get custody of her. This case goes back to the spring of 1999. At the time, the girl’s mother was romantically involved with two different men. According to the high court, the Missouri man heard from a co-worker that the woman might be

Alternative court for unmarried parents

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Paternity on Monday, May 28, 2012. When an unmarried new father is hailed into court, the rulings usually involve financial determinations, not the role he will play in the child’s life. One judge in Minnesota found that too often, even men who contributed financially faded from their children’s lives. The same judge found that additional efforts need to be made to ensure that unmarried fathers uphold parenting obligations. Working collaboratively with mothers and the courts, a new system is paving the way for family courts nationwide. The new arrangement could possibly serve as a model
