Part 2: Advice for the Missouri father contemplating divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, October 3, 2013. In our last post we brought up some of the stereotypes men face when going through a divorce and the importance of being financially prepared to not only go through the divorce, but live life afterwards within a new budget. In this post we are going to look at alimony in terms of men paying to ex-wives and men receiving payments from ex-wives. The first thing to realize is alimony, also known as spousal support, is not automatic in Missouri. This means the court has quite a bit of discretion

The Affordable Care Act may take some of the worry out of divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Friday, September 27, 2013. When it comes to divorce, health care concerns are a top priority for some Missouri residents. Especially in cases where spouses were together for a long time and one relied on the other to be covered by their employer-sponsored health care coverage. In fact, it is not unheard of for one spouse to end up dropped from coverage after a divorce, but then unable to afford coverage on their own. However, looking to the very near future, when the Affordable Care Act is implemented across the U.S., it could

Mother charged after failing to return child to custodial father

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Visitation on Monday, September 23, 2013. A 36-year-old woman is facing felony charges after she failed to return her child back to the care of her ex-husband, who has custody of the child. However, Missouri couples were also reminded that there are still risks involved when property is owned jointly and children are involved, even if a couple is not married. It should also be noted that divorce does not deter everyone from marriage. In fact, there are a good number of

Especially in those Missouri divorces where a husband or wife really took a financial hit, some may be a little skeptical about getting remarried in the future. In this post we are going to focus on the declining remarriage rate in the U.S. and how cohabitation is playing a role. However, in the next post we will focus on some extra steps many are taking before deciding to take the marriage plunge again. Recently, federal data on the U.S.

Allen Iverson’s ex-wife wants $1.2 million in child support

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Support on Friday, September 13, 2013. In the past, NBA star Allen Iverson has run into issues when it comes to paying child support on time. In an effort to try and avoid this, his ex-wife has asked for Iverson to pay upfront the $1.2 million that would cover the lifetime of his child support payments. In this case, Iverson and his ex-wife Tawanna Iverson have five children together. The youngest will turn 18 in October 2026. Tawanna Iverson’s idea is that if her ex-husband just pays up front, she will no longer have
