Missouri woman is granted same-sex divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Saturday, May 31, 2014. When people get married, it is normally with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, there are situations where, despite the intentions, a marriage ends in divorce. Missouri couples who are seeking to file for divorce often face a lot of hurdles. In a recent case, one Missouri woman faced unique challenges unlike most other divorce cases in the state. According to the report, a Missouri woman sought to file a petition for divorce, but had the additional hurdle of being in a same-sex marriage. The woman was told that she would

Children stolen from guardian’s legal custody found in Missouri

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Thursday, May 29, 2014. Parents are responsible for ensuring the emotional and physical well-being of any children in their care. In some situations, the best interests of the child means that legal custody must be given to a Missouri adult who will provide the care that a parent may not be able to provide. Regardless of the circumstances, providing a safe and nurturing environment for the child is the goal of child custody cases. According to a recent report, two boys were found in an enclosed area of a moving truck. The boys were

Finding the right team to help get you through a divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Friday, May 23, 2014. While some people thrive on pressure, most of us do not function very well in a disaster. This is especially true if the event is both personal and emotionally overwhelming. It is in these situations that we most need to rely on others and to have a plan. Divorce can certainly feel like a disaster. And for the many individuals who try to get through it alone and without a strategy, divorce can result in long-term financial damage and emotional trauma. A recent article in Forbes discusses how to

Relationship & divorce studies: Are the results actually useful?

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, May 22, 2014. It feels as though dozens of studies are published each year attempting to draw definitive conclusions about relationships, marriage and divorce. While these studies are interesting, the results definitely need to be understood in context. Moreover, readers need to remember that such studies cannot predict the fate of a given couple or the outcomes of a particular action. One recent study seems to be an example of research that should be taken with a grain of salt. After analyzing U.S. Census Bureau data on over 49,000 individuals, the study’s

Actor’s custody dispute continues with appellate win

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Actor Jason Patric is one step closer to being recognized as the legal father of his biological son. Patric and on-again off-again girlfriend Danielle Schreiber conceived the child through in vitro fertilization. About a year after their son was born, the couple broke up for good. That is about all they agree on. Patric has been fighting for parental rights ever since. He claims he indicated “an intent to parent” at the time of conception — he signed forms at the family planning clinic that handled the in vitro fertilization.

A first for Missouri: Court OKs divorce for same-sex couple, p2

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. We are continuing our discussion of a divorce case, a divorce case quite unusual for Missouri. A state court recently granted a divorce to a same-sex couple, even though same-sex marriage is prohibited in the state. When we left off, we were talking about comity, the legal principle on which the judge based her opinion. Without reading the full decision, we cannot say how the judge argued the point. But it may tie to Missouri law’s definition of marriage as a civil contract. That contract may have been struck
