Know your Paternity rights

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. Not too long ago, questions of paternity were something like gambling. You could take a blood test, but was hardly conclusive and if a mother denied the paternity of a man and the blood test did not match, his effort to be named as the father could be frustrated. Today, with the advent of DNA testing, the scientific accuracy of the test is now virtually 100 percent, and a mother’s protestations now have less force. For most men, fatherhood is very important, and the opportunity to be viewed as a

Why are court cases so complex?

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Friday, December 4, 2015.  The laws in Missouri governing divorce, paternity, child custody and child support can be difficult and confusing for non-attorneys. Statues are written in a very unnatural fashion, which can make them unclear. The situation may be made even more complex by the tendency to define a term or conduct by reference to another section of the Missouri Revised Statues. For instance, in section 452.375(2)(6), which deals with the factors a court should consider when determining what is in the best interests of the child, it mentions “domestic violence”

Leave for dads can help promote father’s rights

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Monday, November 30, 2015. Father’s rights are a complex issue. During a divorce, many judges in the St. Louis area probably still feel that raising children is “women’s work.” This can lead to the presumption that when it comes to custody matters, a mother will receive the custody of the children. For fathers, this can mean they must fight to obtain shared custody. And in some ways, the issue extends far beyond a Missouri family court, to other matters. One writer argues that providing better family leave benefits for fathers would help improve

Girls missing during custody dispute located

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Friday, November 27, 2015. When a divorce occurs here in Missouri, a core problem is often parents who can no longer get along with each other. When they have children, this can be a significant problem. In most divorce settlements, the child custody portion will require varying degrees of interaction and cooperation between the parents. If the parents have shared or joint custody, where the children spend approximately the same amount of time with each parent, this is likely to require a significant amount of “handoffs,” where the parents transfer the children

No evidence of bias by judge in rancorous custody case

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Thursday, November 26, 2015. Often times, participants in a family law case will feel as though the deck is stacked against them. They may feel the judge seems hostile and consistently rules against them. But claiming judicial bias is a very serious charge, as most judges view questioning their impartiality as an attack on the very core of their role as a judge. For the individual litigant, it may be difficult to grasp some of the legal technicalities of court process and procedure. Sitting down with your attorney and asking them to
