Study finds that long commutes increase the chances of divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Have to drive a long way every day just to get to work? Maybe the office is 30 minutes each way, or maybe it’s even an hour – or longer – each way. And while this might be somewhat frustrating to the person who has to spend hours every week driving to and from work, it turns out that it may also increase their chance of divorce. According to a recent study, those commuters who are just starting a long travel to work had a 40 percent higher chance of

Japan closer to changing child abduction laws

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. As previously reported on this blog, Japan ranks very high in terms of international abductions. In fact, the U.S. State Department reports that since 1994 a total of 321 children have been abducted or moved to Japan without both parent’s permission. Of those 321 children, none have been returned. However, under mounting pressure from the U.S. to change how international child custody arrangements are followed, the Japanese Cabinet has approved a plan that would fall more in line with the Hague Convention on the Prevention of Child Abduction. Now the

Facebook and social media showing up in more divorce cases

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. It seems innocent enough at first: A simple friend request online with an ex. But for some, it turns out the temptation to connect goes behind just chatting online and leads to real life affairs. One now ex-husband recently shared his story, claiming that Facebook ruined his marriage as it allowed his wife to reconnect with an ex boyfriend from more than 20 years ago. And while this relationship may have just started out as casual online friends, it ended up turning into an extramarital affair that led to

Older children sometimes seem disinterested in visitation times

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Visitation on Monday, May 16, 2011. As children grow and mature it is normal for them to become more resistant to going back and forth between their parents’ houses during visitation time. And while this is sure to hurt a father’s feelings who just wants to have a good solid relationship with their child, dads should rest assured that in most situations it isn’t that their kids don’t love them anymore, it’s more that they are just now more concerned with being with friends and their growing social life. Missouri website aims to collect child support more efficiently

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Support on Thursday, May 12, 2011. A new website used by the Missouri Department of Social Services is expected to improve and expand the collection of non-custodial parent child support payments. The new technology that will be overseen by Policy Studies Inc. will replace an outdated manually-dependent collections process. The website is targeted to make it easier for the child support agency to connect efficiently with employers of parents who owe support. The system is expected to reduce errors, minimize paperwork and speed up information processing. Employers are bound by both the federal Personal Responsibility and

Mother ordered to pay $6.1 million for moving children to Japan

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. A mother who broke a custodial agreement and moved her children out of the country has been ordered to pay the father $6.1 million in damages. And while this does not mean that the children – ages 8 and 10 – will be reunited with their father in the U.S., the father’s attorney is hopeful that it may be a step in the right direction with more pressure from Japanese officials for the mother to do the right thing. As reported earlier on this blog, the case itself stems back
