A person’s employment situation can affect many things. According to a recent study, one of the things it may impact for men is their divorce likelihood.
In the study, which looked at well over 6,000 heterosexual couples, the divorce chances (for the following year) of men who were employed full-time were compared with those of men who were not. The study found that the estimated divorce likelihood of the men who did not have full-time employment exceeded that of the men who had such employment by around a third.
The trend this study points to is a relatively new phenomenon. Data indicates that, for pre-1975s couples, divorce likelihood was actually lower for men without full-time employment.
The study’s findings did not point out what is causing the current trend of men without full-time employment having an upped chance of divorce. One wonders what future research will say on this topic.
In addition to potentially having ramifications regarding a man’s divorce likelihood, a man’s employment situation can also have impacts when a divorce does end up happening. Whether a person is employed and, if they are, what specific kind of job they have, could have implications when it comes to a variety of different divorce issues, such as:
- Spousal support.
- Property division.
- Child support.
- Child custody.
