Update: Seal and Klum’s divorce heats up

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Thursday, September 6, 2012. Back in January we posted on the fact that model Heidi Klum and musician Seal were separated and planned on filing for divorce. At the time, everything seemed rather amicable between the two — but we did wonder if things would start to heat up when it came to child custody and other divorce settlement matters. As it turns out, the tables have indeed turned with news of Klum already in a new relationship with her bodyguard. Seal and Klum were married for seven years and have been raising four children together.

DNA paternity testing on the rise

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Tuesday, August 28, 2012. With more and more children being born to unmarried parents there has been an increase in the demand for paternity tests. In fact, this demand has been so high that in one city there is even a mobile clinic that offers DNA paternity testing on the spot. With a prescription from a doctor and roughly $299 — depending on the service — a person can stop up at the 28-foot recreational vehicle and submit a sample. About three to five days later the results are in. When looking at why

Tips for grandparents during a divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Friday, August 24, 2012. When adult children go through a divorce, grandparents often find themselves in a sticky situation. While they want to be there for their adult children, it’s important that they do not say or do anything that could end up backfiring on their relationship with their own children and grandchildren. This is why Marie Hartwell-Walker, a licensed psychologist, offers the following tidbits of advice for grandparents who are dealing with their adult children going through a divorce: Stay in contact with the grandchildren: Right now is a tough time for the grandchildren

Differences on whether or not to have children can lead to divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. There are many deal breakers when it comes to marriage. This is why many family law attorneys, who have seen many divorces emerge from one spouse wanting a child and the other not wanting a child, say it’s important to have these discussions before walking down the aisle. This way everyone is on the same page and there are no surprises. Looking at the situation, if one spouse wants children and the other does not, the one who wants kids may feel resentments against their partner for denying them something so

Child support and visitation are two separate issues

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Visitation on Thursday, August 16, 2012. With today’s current economy and many lay-offs it is not unheard of for a father to be behind on his child support payments due to financial reasons. However, when a dad is behind on these payments — while for the custodial parent this can surely be frustrating — this should still never be used as a reason behind limiting visitation time between a father and his child. When talking about child support and visitation it’s important to keep in mind these are two separate family law issues. And while

Military father takes custody challenge to the US Supreme Court

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Child custody disputes can be quite contentious — especially when one parent lives here in the United States and the other is a national in another country. Right now a father, who is a sergeant in the U.S. Army, is challenging a lower court’s ruling that awarded custody to the mother of his daughter who lives in Scotland. His claim is that the decision to award the mother custody essentially denies the custody rights of a parent who losses a child when the other parent abducts them to another country.
