After denying being the father of a child, rapper Flo Rida is now being ordered to start paying child support. At this point, Flo Rida, whose real name is Tramar Dillard, is being asked to hand over his financial information to the state’s Department of Revenue in order to determine how much he owes in child support to the mother of the child.
In looking at the allegations that Dillard fathered the boy, it was back in 2011 that the mother of the child took legal action saying the rapper was the father. She was seeking financial support from Dillard.
However, Dillard denied the allegations and claimed he was not the father of the boy. He also claimed that he took a DNA paternity test that proved he was not the father.
Clearly though, something between now and then has happened for Dillard to be on the hook for child support.
In general, when a child is born to two parents who are married, typically no one questions who the father of the child is. However, when a child is born to unwed parents, there can be question as to who the father is.
Paternity cases can be emotional and are not a one-size-fits-all. For example, in some cases a father will want to get a paternity test done to establish his rights as a father. However, in other cases a man might want a paternity test done to confirm that he is not the father to avoid having to take financial responsibility for someone else’s child.
In all situations where paternity is a question, an attorney with experience handling paternity and father’s rights cases should be involved.
