While rumors have been going around that comedian Russell Brand and wife Katy Perry were going to split it, on Friday is became official when Brand made a public statement that the two were deciding to end their little over one year marriage.
As of now, what made the two decide to split for good is unknown, but it is known that it was 36-year-old Brand who filed for the divorce. He cited the common “irreconcilable differences” on the divorce petition.
The news of the couple’s divorce filing comes less than one month after Brand told talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres that he was happy in his marriage and that “perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive.”
However, since then rumors started to circle gossip websites when the two spent the holidays apart, and each were seen out in public without their wedding rings on.
When looking at the recent news of Brand and Perry’s divorce filing, it should be noted that a recent Forbes article claims that there are more divorces filed after the holidays than any other time of year. And while it’s unknown why the celebrity couple filed, many spouses choose to wait until once the holidays are over to avoid having to disrupt the holidays.
Regardless of anyone’s reasoning for waiting to file, if you are thinking of filing for divorce in the near future, it’s always a good idea to talk with a qualified legal professional to make sure that you are taking the proper steps.
